Mercy and Grace

Mercy And Grace

In this part of the world we are celebrating Christmas. First an insert about Christmas, Jesus was not Born on December 25th, according to Scripture we do not know the exact Date Our Savior came into this world, but we can estimate according to the period that Israel was in. The Historical Scholars seem to think that it was between March and November only because the Sheep and the Shepherds were out in the Fields, instead of being shut up for Winter. I will not get into any more detail about this, but it is because of the Birth of Jesus The Christ and the Mercy and Grace given to us, by His Birth.

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”

Galatians 2:16

“Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ,

(by grace ye are saved;)”

Ephesians 2:5

We, my Brothers and Sisters are Saved by Grace having Mercy from God The Father, through The Blood of Jesus, the Sacrificial Lamb Of God! Now, what does Mercy and Grace mean exactly to us whom have confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior? Here are the Definitions of both the Worlds point of view and the Biblical Understanding in the Greek.

The World’s Definition

Mercy: compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm; compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one’s power; imprisonment rather than death imposed as penalty for first-degree murder; a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion

a fortunate circumstance; compassionate treatment of those in distress; at the mercy of wholly in the power of with no way to protect oneself against

Grace: simple elegance or refinement of movement; the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings; do honor or credit to (someone or something) by one’s presence; unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification; a virtue coming from God; a state of sanctification enjoyed through divine assistance; APPROVAL, FAVOR stayed in his good graces

The Biblical Definition

Mercy: to have mercy on; to help one afflicted or seeking aid; to help the afflicted, to bring help to the wretched; to experience mercy

Grace: that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness: grace of speech good will, loving-kindness, favour of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues; what is due to grace; the spiritual condition of one governed by the power of divine grace; the token or proof of grace, benefit; a gift of grace; benefit, bounty; thanks, (for benefits, services, favours), recompense, reward

There are a few differences, but both the Worldly View and The Godly View are close. The bottom line is this; we Live By Grace, having Mercy on All, even as God has done this very thing toward us, basically that, All of us deserve to go to Hell for our Transgressions that we have done against God. Praise Jesus that He, through the Fathers Love, brought Grace to us and finding Mercy By The Hand Of God and not by anything we do or could do.

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Matthew 6:14-15

Mercy: it is so hard for us as frail Humans to Walk In. We think that we are Justified to pass Judgement because of the Actions Done To Us or Our Loved Ones. Mercy does not just happen, it requires a Sacrifice of one’s self to put aside those things that bring Offense. Jesus said that if we Do Not Forgive, we Will Not Be Forgiven, there is no IF, MAYBE, this is an Absolute From God. Jesus came into this World a Living Sacrifice for our Sins, our Transgressions Against The God Head (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and Forgiving Us No MATTER THE SIN and so must we.

Now how long does this Mercy go, how far must I go? Peter had the same question, the same concern, the same Fleshly Attributes that we all have.

21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”

Matthew 18:21-22

Mercy, even tho I might think that I am Justified to be Angry, to Punish, to Cut Off, to do Acts Of Violence… I AM NOT JUSTIFIED but ONLY TO HAVE MERCY!!! If I want to Obtain Mercy from God, then I must Give Mercy to those whom in my eyes are Justified to have Restitution For There Sin Against ME! If I do Unmerciful things to gain some sort of satisfaction, then, I am Found By God To Be Judged Likewise for MY SINS against Him!

Now understand this. You Must have Forgiveness, Mercy towards Mankind, but that does not mean that you have to be their Friend, Companion or that you must Like Them. What Mercy does is keep each of us Clean, keeps Unrighteous Judgment out of the soul. It is being Like our God.

Now one question that has come up, there are some who think that in order for a person to obtain Mercy, they must First Ask for Mercy. NO THAT IS NOT RIGHT! Nowhere will find Jesus saying that. We give Mercy to the Undeserving that in some way, some fashion they may find Mercy the same as we have.

Mercy is Not Getting What YOU Deserve, Grace is Getting What You NOW Deserve. The two Walk Hand-in-Hand you cannot find the one without the other being present as well.

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”

Genesis 6:8

How did Noah find Grace in The Father? It was because of his Faithful Walk With God! Noah upheld God in the Highest Fashion in Life, and because of that, when God wanted to destroy all of mankind, God gave to Noah a way of Escape from The Judgement. As we Live and Breathe we have Found Grace through the Blood of Jesus, we are Blessed beyond measure! Jesus has given to us a Better Life, a more Abundant Life to Live!

9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.”

John 10:9-10

By Grace, we have an Abundant Life and that is only found In Jesus! But…But… If I Do Not follow His Commandments then I will Lose My Life. If I do not have Mercy on others, I will not have Mercy when I Die! Jesus said, If YOU LOVE ME…

Now what does Love me have to do with Mercy and Grace? It has everything to do with it.

15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”

John 14:15-21

The key is in verse 21, “He that hath my commandments and keepeth them…”. We have been given the Commandment to Have Forgiveness Regardless of the Circumstances and we have no choice but to Do The Commandment. In these the Last Days of the Gentiles, it is becoming harder to Walk in this Mercy, to show Mercy to those who are undeserving. I have found myself not having Mercy at times and have to repent, I have to make a Conscious Choice to do so and at times it is very hard…but God!

We need to understand, Brothers and Sisters, that this World is going to get worse and worse, that the Righteousness of God is becoming less and less, but all of these things must come to pass before Jesus will return for His Bride, that is us! We must Endure In Mercy, giving Grace as we can, even as God has done for us. We must keep our Eyes On Jesus, be Led By The Holy Spirit, Follow The Scriptures in order to make it in this World.

Read Matthew chapter 10, it gives us a glimpse of what must happen. Regardless the Road, Regardless the Path we must Obey God, to do what He Desires and what He Commands us to do!

Amen and Amen!!!
